Julio César Rivera joined Marval O’Farrell Mairal in 2019 as honorary partner. He specializes in insolvency law, international and domestic arbitration, complex commercial litigations, corporate, banking and civil law. He was designated Associate Judge of the Argentine Supreme Court in 2018.
Previously, he was founder and managing partner at Rivera & Asociados. He has also held the positions of First Instance Judge in Commercial Matters (1978-1982), Judge of the Federal Court of Appeals in Commercial Matters (1982-1985) and partner of Héctor Alegría's law firm.
He graduated in law with honors from the Universidad del Salvador in 1970. Four years later he earned his Ph.D in Jurisprudence at the same Law School.
Julio César has been recognized by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as a leading lawyer in Argentina in Bankruptcy/Restructuring and Dispute Resolution, and has also been ranked as an arbitration leader in Argentina.
He has extensive experience as an arbitrator in domestic and international cases. He has been appointed arbitrator in more than 30 cases held in accordance with the Arbitration Rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
He has had a significant legislative activity. Since 1984, he has been a professor of Civil Law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires Law School, and he is also a professor of Contract Law at the Universidad de San Andrés Law School.
He is the author of several books and has written more than two hundred articles published in local and international specialized publications.
He is a member of the Academia Nacional de Derecho de Buenos Aires as of November 1999, the Academia Peruana de Derecho, the International Academy of Comparative Law, the Buenos Aires Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the UNIDROIT, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and ex-President of the Asociación Argentina de Derecho Comparado. He is also a member of the ICC Latin America Group and member of the Capítulo Rioplatense del Club Español del Arbitraje.
